SUMMER HIGHLIGHTS. Rollicking Shakespeare comedy coming to Great Fulford - ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL

After the rip-roaring success of Twelfth Night, Troubadour Stageworks is back and bigger than ever with this summer’s outdoor tribute to the bard!

All’s Well That Ends Well is a love story that just can’t seem to go quite right. One-sided affection, kidnapping, disguise, this play has it all. Grab a picnic, grab a bubble and join us at Great Fulford for this rollicking Shakespeare comedy.

This is an outdoor performance. We recommend that you bring blankets/chairs/cushions etc. and are welcome to bring a picnic. Come prepared for the weather with warm coats and waterproofs etc, as the performance will continue come rain come shine! W ask that you don’t bring umbrellas as these can obscure the view for other people in the audience.

Troubadour Stageworks was founded in 2017 with the aim of creating a stage in any space, and in so doing, supporting heritage venues and enabling emerging creatives to make exciting new theatre. Our Shakespeare shows are known for their original music creative adaptations and unusual staging.

Praise for 2020's Twelfth Night:
"It was one of the most enjoyable open air Shakespeares I have ever been to (and I have been to dozens!)... Such a joy in this otherwise 'midsummer madness!'"

"Thank you so much for putting on such an enjoyable evening... the love for what you are doing shone through and was hugely inspirational."

"The performance and production was a joy and delight… My hearing is not what it used to be, but I heard every single word and none of it was forced."

Event full Summer for 'Books from Devon' author, Liz Shakespeare

As Covid restrictions ease, one Devon author is looking forward to meeting readers again. Liz Shakespeare, whose books are inspired by the people, history and landscapes of Devon, will be attending a number of events this summer to sign copies of her books and to talk to members of the public.

Liz said, ‘Over the past year I have been able to continue writing, and I published my most recent book The Song of the Skylark in October 2020 with a launch on Zoom, but I have missed meeting readers at my usual talks and book signings throughout Devon.

She has written six books set in Devon, bringing to life the stories she finds in old newspapers, on gravestones and in parish records. Liz has a long Devon ancestry which she feels has given her a good understanding of the county and its people. The Song of the Skylark tells the true story of a young girl sent out as a parish apprentice to work on a remote Devon farm.

Liz will be signing copies of all six of her books in the Magpie Marquee at the following events:
  • Mid-Devon Show on July 24th
  • Hartland Farmers’ Market on August 1st
  • Sidmouth Folk Festival on August 2nd
  • Honiton Show on August 5th and 6th
  • Clovelly Maritime Festival on August 8th
  • Okehampton Show on August 12th
  • Bideford Pannier Market on August 21st
  • North Molton Country Fair on August 22nd
  • High Bickington Fete on August 28th

Community Spirit. Opening Day donatation to Children’s Hospice South West from new Quay Sports Fishing Tackle Store

Quay Sports Fishing Tackle Store opened its doors on Saturday 26 June 2021 with over 100 anglers popping in to check out the brand new ‘one stop’ fishing shop in Roundswell Barnstaple for the opening day event; many were local fishing enthusiasts who took advantage of the opening day promotions, as well as tourists from further afield who came to stock up on much needed bait and tackle whilst holidaying in North Devon.

Chris Connaughton, the Quay Sports Store Manager, said “The response from customers has been incredible – we’ve had really positive feedback from everyone who’s been into the store, especially about the store layout, location and the huge range of rods, equipment and bait we have available.  Plus some of the local Devon produced brands we sell have been flying off the shelves which is great to see”.

The Quay Sports brand has already developed a successful online business from 10 years of trading, but it was the expansion of the company into larger premises that prompted the opening of a store in North Devon, where the company first started out.   Chris added “The Quay Sports Team are keen anglers so we knew first hand that it wasn’t always easy to pick up what you needed locally.  Our goal is to focus on what customers want from a bait and tackle store in this area – and if we haven’t got what they’re looking for, we’re determined to do the very best we can to get it”.

The Quay Sports custom built store is spread over two floors, is open 7 days a week and is packed to the brim with everything a budding angler might need – plus the free parking outside has ensured a steady stream of people arriving every day.  It’s clear the store’s success is generating a lot of interest, and the company wanted to give something back to the community by donating money to their chosen charity - last week Manager Chris handed over a cheque for £150 to Ruth from the Children’s Hospice South West, which was raised from their opening day event.  Chris said “We want our store to be part of the community, supporting local anglers, local charities and local businesses, as well as providing a much needed service to tourists and visitors who come to enjoy everything North Devon has to offer.”

The Quay Sports Team couldn’t be happier right now and are looking forward to welcoming more visitors to the store as word continues to spread amongst the angling community about North Devon’s new one stop bait and tackle store.
